Using various chemical processes, a synthesis gas is first obtained, from which raw methanol is produced in a catalytic process, and then further processed after purification. Today, biogas, biomass or residual waste is used in a gasification process to produce environmentally friendly "green" methanol. This process releases VOCs and other pollutants. The production of ammonia and other inorganic acids are also emission-intensive processes.
